january 2021 in books

I have been posting my books on a dedicated instagram for about 14 months (& before that on my regular instagram), so starting in March I’ll be cross-posting my regular reading updates. you can follow along here + also @somekuhlbooks

in January of this year, I read 12 books:
– nine fiction books
– two non-fiction books
– one collection of poetry

these 12 books were by 8 authors for a total of 6,128 pages.
I listened to three audiobooks + re-read 2 books.

January had a lot of upheaval on a national level + my work-life balance went through some shifts as I changed my work schedule around. I also tend to crave lighter reads during the winter. consequently, this month had a VERY high fantasy/ya slant to it!

I’ve never been shy about reading a wide variety of books, authors, topics, perspectives: I think we are all made in the image of God + we reflect His creativity in unique ways.
I’ll read books by people I disagree with from all sorts of backgrounds, because those people are made in the image of God + He loves them.
I love them, too.
if I post a book, it is not a blanket endorsement; it’s just something I read. I think to shy away from things that make us uncomfortable or push us to explore outside of our preconceived notions and boundaries, puts us in a dangerous position of building + dwelling in an echo chamber.

I do try to make note of any content/trigger warnings that may pop up in individual books. I read non fiction, poetry, memoirs, short story anthologies, YA fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, romance, fluffy, thriller, mysteries, translations, new editions, anything + everything. I hope you’ll join me! if I read something you’ve read, drop a comment + let me know your thoughts!
