Spellmaker

Charlie Holmberg’s latest book came out last week! Spellmaker completes the Spellbreaker duology. I love Charlie’s books for the setting, the rich magical details, the strong characters, and the fun. this was up to par!

Spellbreaker + Spellmaker are set in England, in a parallel universe, where magic is highly regulated by the government — and those who practice outside the law are subject to strict penalties. in Spellbreaker, we meet Elise, who was raised in workhouses before being taken in by a generous employee. no one knows that Elise has been an unregistered spellbreaker for most of her life. she’s guarded and guided by a mysterious cohort she calls the Cowls, who direct her to perform spell breaking in order to set things to right and bring justice to the downtrodden.

Spellmaker, Charlie Holmberg

Spellmaker brings us to a dilemma: caught in the act of illegal spell breaking, Elise faces possibly severe consequences with far-reaching impact. Elise still has to figure out what has gone horribly wrong with her perception of the world – and explore who tricked her into changing the fates of those around her – and why. in the midst of everything going on, Elise must also explore her own fears + insecurities through some very confusing emotional experiences.

Charlie writes such fun characters and I loved watching Elise and Bacchus’ story unfold in this duology 🪄♥️
