-re-create-

redo, recreate, replace, remake, revise, realign –
bring it back to where it’s supposed to be.
which is where, exactly?

why do all the words make it sound like I need to strip it all away to come out the other side? all I have seems to be empty – fear, exhaustion, loneliness – broken, heavy, jagged, cracked – certainly not those other things, done, creative, placed, made, aligned. mostly I see who and what I am by seeing who and what I am not, and left gaping and open, I stretch to fill myself with somehow more of less:

I see the flowering shrubs we almost pulled out before they bloomed,

and I see myself, my self, pulling my work out by the roots before you bring it to completion.

recreate my image in yours
remake my worth in yours

create and recreate
recreation in your creation

Heather Hodgson Kuhl is a writer and therapist living with her husband Jon in southwestern Washington, which is to say, not the Portland OR metroplex. she has been scribbling and creating since the age of four. when not working as a full time therapist, Heather can be found eating too many chocolate covered espresso beans, gardening, reading, spending time with her nieces and nephews, or hatching plans to run away to the beach forever and ever, amen.
